“I don’t feel that all of me came back.”
A man contacted me after a serious operation during which he had died on the operating table and been resuscitated. He told me, “I don’t feel that all of me came back.” I explained how, in trauma and in the language of parts work, aspects of ourselves can feel split off or lost. We journeyed together to seek and retrieve the part he felt had gone missing from his life. My work is about helping people reclaim a sense of wholeness: anxiety and depression can sometimes accompany the experience of a self that feels as though parts of it have been shaved away through time. The aim is not simply to survive, but to live as wholly as we can.
His experience is his own; feeling detached after a medical emergency also warrants appropriate medical support.
